Iwobi Reveals His Most Frightening Incident At Arsenal (Read Here)
Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has revealed how he got scared after a fan pursued him for over 15 minutes, shortly after his team’s 2-0 win over Basel in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium last month.
Iwobi has become a fan favourite at Emirates Stadium, scoring twice in 28 appearances.
According to him, his relationship with his fans will help him become an even better player this season.
He said: “It gives you an extra boost, an extra bit of confidence. You feel you are up for more things and more motivated to do well. When you have the fans [behind you], it’s such a good feeling.”However, speaking on Arsenal’s weekly podcast, Iwobi recounted a particularly frightening incident in which a supporter almost got a bit too close.
After the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Basel in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium last month, Iwobi got in his car and left the stadium but was being pursued by someone.
He said: “After the games I’m trying to go home but I see the fans almost breaking my car to grab a picture which is crazy. The connection I have with the fans is great. I’m young and most of the fans are young, so the connection’s there.Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi was on target as Nigeria won a competitive away game for the first time in 23 months after a 2-1 win over Zambia in a World Cup qualifier.
“There have been a lot of crazy things I’ve seen fans do. The last home game we played last season, I was driving for 15 minutes. There was lots of traffic and for 15 minutes there was one fan following me.
“I was getting a bit scared because I was close to my destination. I thought, ‘I’m going to have to take a detour before he finds out where I’m going. That was a bit mad.”
He continued: “In all seriousness, though, I didn’t expect to be where I am today. I thought that I was going to be on loan a while ago, and probably getting experience there before getting first-team experience here.
“But the fact that the boss trusted me to make the jump up as soon as I have makes me really grateful.”
Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored before Collins Mbesuma pulled one back at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
