Isaac Success'll be a great player ' Watford boss
Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has tipped his powerful Nigerian forward Isaac Success to transform into “a great player”.
The 20-year-old UAE FIFA Under-17 World
Cup winner, who joined the Premier League club from Granada for a
club-record fee in the region of £12.5m in the summer, has earned rave
reviews for his impressive performances since arriving at Vicarage
Road, although he is been largely been consigned to a substitute’s
role.
Success was denied the chance to make
his Super Eagles debut against Zambia’s Chipolopolo in their
opening Russia 2018 World Cup Group B qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa
Stadium in Ndola on October 9 after he sustained an injury during
Watford’s Premier League game against Bournemouth on October 1. The
encounter ended 2-2, with Success getting off the bench to grab the
equaliser. It was incidentally his first goal for the club.
But Italian manager Mazzarri, who has
lavished praise on the former Spain-based attacker for his efforts in
the 1-0 defeat of Middlesbrough on Sunday, insists Success still has a
lot to learn as he adapts to life in the Premier League.
“He (Success) played well, as did the whole team, but he did much better in the other games when he came on from the bench,” Watford Observer quoted the former Napoli and Inter Milan manager as saying on Wednesday.
“It’s not easy to start a game. It’s
completely different but if he gets his full condition then he also
needs to learn some things and he will be a great player.”
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is expected to
invite the Hornets’ striker for the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier
against Algeria in Uyo on November 12, meaning the player may get the
chance to make his international debut.
Success missed the fixture against
Zambia alongside his Watford teammate Odion Ighalo, as well as
in-form Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses and Mainz 05 defender Leon
Balogun.
“The three injured players and the one that had a family issue and had to be excused will all be back,” Rohr said.
“We shall also look at other players who play regularly in their clubs who may join the team.”
